Sandra Battaglini, Canada’s best female stand-up comic of 2016, is headlining the North Bay Comedy for Cancer Cure show at the Davedi Club June 14.

The Sudbury native based in Toronto is an award-winning comedian, actor and writer with more than two decades of stage experience.

She tours with the nationwide Yuk Yuks comedy club chain and has performed in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles and was a semi-finalist in the She-Devil Comedy Competition in NYC.

Battaglini will be the featured act following a string of Stand Up Comedy North Bay acts, including local veteran host Andre Raymond, Doug Bies, lead Eric Bowman and rookie feature Dave Dale. There’s also a mystery guest comic.

All proceeds from this comedy fundraiser are going to the North Bay Relay for Life event June 22, which is hosted at CFB North Bay by 22 Wing volunteers. Bies is the 2018 Relay for Life Honorary Survivor.

Richard Catahan, of North Bay, is the title sponsor for the comedy fundraiser with his $500 donation directly to the CCS. Secondary VIP table reservation sponsorships are available for a separate $100 donation to CCS North Bay Relay for Life (after the purchase of 10 tickets at $20 each). A hospitality sponsorship to accommodate the event’s headliner is also being sought.

Before the comedy show starts at 8 p.m., Verdon Vaillancourt, the 2017 Relay for Life Honorary Cancer Survivor, will entertain beginning after the doors open at 7 p.m.

The Davedi Club will be hosting a cash bar for this event.

Sandra Battaglini is the 2013 Canadian Comedy Award winner for her solo show, Classy Lady, directed by Phil Luzi, that premiered in Toronto in 2012 and most recently was voted ‘Best Female Standup’ by NOW Magazine.

Past performances include Hard Headed Woman (Canadian Comedy Award Winner, 2007), Small Battalion of Soldiers (Canadian Comedy Award Nomination, 2005).

Sandra appears in David Cronenberg’s latest feature, Maps to the Stars that premiered at TIFF in 2014, CBC’s sketch show Humantown, NBC Seeso’s flagship web series, The Amazing Gayle Pile and upcoming episodes of medical drama Saving Hope and Odd Squad. She is currently in development and on original concepts, including Knitterati and Family Slides with Phil Luzi.
